Give Joy . . . buy goods that do good

In Buy GOODS that do good by Toni Nagel-Smith

A gentleman contacted me this month as he had seen this post and asked if I could share what his organization is doing about holiday giving..his contacting me was a wonderful surprise as I have been so negligent about attending to the website.  I tend my Facebook page for itispossible.org ….posting almost exclusively about the environment…interesting actions, articles and resources.

So for this holiday season….

Think Joy …
Think a donation to an organization that touches your heart …

Think about becoming a sustaining donor to a good cause …
Think about buying from a B Corp …
Think about Fair Trade …
Think about Sustainability

But most of all be joyful and share with others.

This first site to pursue is from the gentleman who contacted me…the rest were part of my my original post…all the info is still relevant.

at the start of 2020 i will go through everything I have learned over this last year…so many new companies are making efforts to have their sales benefit others…here are three to check out.

Want to get a toilet to a place in need….check out https://us.whogivesacrap.org/

how bout socks to those in need….https://bombas.com/

then look at the been around a long time…Tom’s for shoes….https://www.toms.com

there are so so many good folks running good companies and organizations..next year I will produce a comprehensive list.

There are large and small  evaluative organizations but once again you must ascertain if they are on the up and up.  Do your research on the researchers.  Attaching this Vox  article http://www.vox.com/2015/12/1/9826838/giving-tuesday-holiday-charity.  I can not attest to the validity of the groups referenced in these article, but it will widen your horizons a bit.

On a personal level, I have my favorites.  The PBS stations I watch, the NPR stations I listen to, organizations that I have a personal involvement in or know who is the captain of the ship.  I also love to give to nephews getting their heads shaved, nieces cutting off their locks, a neighborhood child doing a fundraiser for their school….etc. etc.  Supporting folks actually putting some people hours into something to raise awareness or funds is personal and a nice way to support the cause and the participant.

Enjoy and learn from your figuring out how to donate adventure!
